Celebrating Seniors Week: May 12-19

Free Events for ages 60 & UP hosted by River Forest Park District and riVer forest township

The month of May is Older American's Month, and the Village of Oak Park, River Forest, and Forest Park have proclaimed the week of May 12-19 Celebrating Seniors Week. This week-long celebration will highlight and recognize the significant contributions older adults make to our communities. Over 15 community-wide organizations that offer services to seniors will be hosting programs and special events during Celebrating Seniors Week, while local businesses show their support by offering discounts and promotions to older adults. Pickleball Social

Washington Square Tennis Courts, 105 Forest Ave, River Forest

Pickleball is a fun and exciting racquet sport that combines aspects of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Learn about the sport while playing with your friends and neighbors. Tai Chi

FRIDAY, MAY 13 FROM 1-2 PM

River Forest Community Center, 8020 Madison St, River Forest - Dance Studio

Tai Chi is a gentle and flowing form of mind and body exercise that is considered a moving meditation. It is suitable for every age. Its benefits include; improved balance, stamina, and resilience against pain and injuries. Regular practice reveals it to be a great tool for managing memory, increased mental focus and stress reduction. As a movement form, it is influenced by martial arts and uses slow, low-impact movements that increase physical fitness. Each individual can progress at their own pace while still enjoying the group practice. This class is led by Beatrice DeFranco. Register at the link below.

Comfortable yoga that is practiced sitting in a chair is not to be underestimated! Not only do we stretch, but we work the core as well. This is the opportunity you've been looking for to get movement back into your life and enjoy the benefits of yoga! Bocce Ball Social

THURSDAY, MAY 19 FROM 6-7:30 PM

Memorial Parkway Bocce Courts (on Lake St. between Jackson & Monroe in River Forest)

The ancient game of bocce closely resembles bowling, requiring strategy and some luck. What a great game to play on a beautiful day with your friends and neighbors. Park District staff and volunteers will be on hand to teach the game of bocce ball followed by open play. All equipment will be provided. Light refreshments will be served. Bring a lawn chair.
